RECENT NEWS!!!

As of 3/30/08

By far the biggest news to date is that Hong and I are to be married on April 7, 2008.  The civil ceremony will take place in San Francisco; we will plan on a more formal ceremony in Hanoi, Vietnam later this year or early in 2009.

This is my fiancée.  Hong currently works for UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund), but will be leaving that long career to live in St. George, Utah.

My cycling buddy, Larry and I are planning to ride over the Rocky Mountains in June, 2008.  Our 147 mile ride will take us from Glenwood Springs, Colorado (5,763' elevation), up over Vail Pass (10,666' elevation) and Loveland Pass (11,992' elevation), before plunging down to Golden, Colorado (5,716' elevation).  The ride should take 3 days due to the extremely tough ascents; we may save the 36 mile, 6,276 foot plunge to Golden for a fourth day for safety reasons.  I had shoulder surgery in May, but my shoulder is doing really well.  I'm riding in excess of 300 miles per month (probably over 400 miles this month (September, 2007).  You may keep up with our plans by linking to :  TRANS ROCKIES RIDE

On June 8, 2007, the puppies and I hopped in the motor home, and set out on a 4,200 mile, 14 day trip to Mississippi.  We visited Bogart's birthplace - Rivrvue Kennels, and saw his mother, Addi, along with 12 other Bouviers.  Bogart got to romp with his brother, Charlie, who looks just like him.  To read more about the trip, and see some photos, just click here.  RIVRVUE TRIP

Well, let's see, Bogart, Katie and I returned on September 9, 2006 from some fantastic times in the Sierras, where we hiked some great trails and played in some cold lakes.  Bogart and Katie carried their own saddlebag-style packs.  This was 16-month-old Bogart's first real hiking, and I'm pleased to announce that he was fabulous.  Both he and Katie hike off-leash behind me, and they behave wonderfully.  They don't bother other hikers, stay on the trail, and generally are pleasant to hike with.  They had a blast playing in a couple of lakes we encountered.  I had to rescue Katie from a stream, when she became lodged between some boulders, and could not extricate herself.  She was not in any real danger, but she was quite concerned about her predicament.  In the week after we returned from our 'doggy vacation' in the motor home, I took them hiking in Zion twice (on a backcountry road owned by one of my Zion neighbors).  Our ten day trip had also taken us to Solvang, where we walked a lot, and I mean a lot; we also visited the Santa Maria Doggy Park for play time with other dogs.

I rode the Solvang Century Bike Ride on 3/11/06, a hundred mile bicycle ride under some pretty tough circumstances (terrible weather)  To read about it and see photos, click on link.  Solvang Century  I then rode in the Solvang Prelude - 50 mile ride on 11/4/06, and was the fifth finisher overall, out of a couple of thousand riders.  There's a fun story behind my amazing finishing position.  Click here to read all about it.

The really big news for 2007 is that I bought a new home in nearby Saint George.  Bogart, Katie and I moved into our new home in early March.  Click here to read all about it, and to see some photos.  1644 N. Sonoran.

HikingwithMike.com went over 61,000 hits in March8 2007.  During the past year I have added a lot of content to the photo gallery and great hikes pages.  You might want to check it out.   www.HikingwithMike.com.
